Weight Training Myths Women Believe (And the Truth)
Adding weights to your routine will give you better results than cardio alone. The health benefits of weight training for women are huge: it is the key to targeting fat loss, building strength and defining your body shape. Yet many women shy away from weights because they're unsure whether the common myths are true.
Here is the truth.
Myth 1: "Weight training will make me look big and bulky"
The fact: Women are built differently to men. We can't naturally produce as much testosterone (the hormone that builds muscle size) as men do. Even if we spent countless hours lifting heavy weights and ate plenty for our body weight, we would not develop like men. Add good nutrition and some cardio and you'll build a firm, fit body.
Myth 2: "I need to spend hours at the gym"
The fact: A 30 minute weight training session can give you maximum results. Train with real effort and you'll be in and out in under an hour. Always get your form right and complete enough reps with a challenging weight. Go heavier when the last few reps start to feel comfortable.
Myth 3: "Women should only use light weights"
The fact: Muscles respond to resistance, and the resistance has to be heavy enough for your body to change. Training with only light weights won't change your body composition, so it does little to firm and tone.
Lift to be stronger rather than "toned". It's a better reason to train, and it's how you end up feeling and looking strong.
